How to coach and mentor the 'Difficult Doctor'

Training goals

This training is aimed towards Responsible Officers (ROs) and HR staff.

The aim of this training is to obtain a better understanding of what makes a doctor ‘difficult’ in order to identify solutions which lead to positive behavioural change through mentoring and coaching.

The training will provide attendees with the coaching and mentoring skills that can modify behaviours in order to generate positive change.

The training will also apply systemic thinking to this issue and examine how changes to the system could support the ‘difficult’ doctor.

Method of training

The course is limited to a maximum of five attendees. Please note, this course can be delivered virtually, face to face, or it can be delivered in a blend of both formats.

The course will  provide interactive opportunities with trainers to practice the tools and techniques which build trust between mentor and mentee. Different methods are explored in how to modify behaviour. Skills in identifying aspects of the difficult doctor which cannot be modified by coaching will be developed in this course.

Who will deliver the training?

Responsible Officer with over 35 years of clinical experience.

Consultant with experience in behaviour management, including as Former Director General of the Indian Army Medical Services.

Identifying the cause of the dysfunctional behaviour.

Understanding how to structure a support session.

Applying systems thinking to the ‘difficult doctor’.

Applying different coaching techniques.

Outcome of training

A certificate of completion – evidencing 7 CPD hours.
